on the ID Brain TOC
Having worked for five years as a Flight Simulation Engineer at Boeing Commercial Aircraft during the early 90’s, I became familiar with the idea of viewing reality, experiencing reality and testing aircraft computers through the use of models. During that time, I thought of the world in terms of the science model and the religious model that shared my brain. Models are discussed more in Bryan’s Chicken Story, Molecular Genetics II, Tears for the Children of Sodom and Darwin/Wallace Prediction.
Both Evolution and Intelligent Design (ID) are models for the world we inhabit. In a sense, neither are fully right nor fully wrong. Both make predictions about our world. Sure, if we admit that we are being metaphorical, we can think in terms of a deity creating life on earth. However, the moment we try to think of that model as being literal and accurate, we are going to make errors in our predictions about the world around us. Evolution appears to be a much truer representation of it because of its fidelity to that which we see. However, it still is an incomplete model. For me, it’s exciting to see the tapestry of this model become richer and richer each decade.
